Mac Nurse is the best! He works on both hardware and software problems with profound knowledge and experience, is a heck of a nice guy, and is very reasonably priced.
Over the past two years he has turned my MacBook Pro from a sluggish, malware infested candidate for replacement, into a fast, like-new machine. And I have learned a lot along the way about how to use and care for my computer. Highly recommended!

My beloved 2010 Macbook Pro, (now 6 years old, going on 7), was acting up, so I made an appointment with Mac Nurse, not sure what to expect. My 27-inch iMac fell during a recent move...screen was damaged...Mac would not boot up... Mac Nurse assessed the damage and gave me an accurate and affordable repair Estimate...a brand new version of this iMac would have been well over $2000!... Mac Nurse came to my house to help with my iMac. He listened to my concerns. Explained what he was doing. Made sure I understood it. Removed lots of malware, tidied up lots of other stuff. Gave me prices of options. Changed my email app from Entourage to Apple Mail, and is now recovering my previous Entourage folders. He's got a great personality and loves dogs! My dog adores him, too.
I would say Perry is the new Mort! (even though she is a cat person).

A few weeks ago, my Apple Mail suddenly started failing, and some other weird things were happening with my MacBook, so I brought the laptop to Mac Nurse in Stowe. It turned out that, previously having been a PC person, I had done all kinds of things wrong right from the initial setup of the computer.
Mac Nurse (Perry) not only restored my Mac to perfect health, he also gave me a thorough tutoring session. I was pretty amazed how much I didn't know about the laptop I was working with, and I'm not talking about complicated "techie" topics, just regular stuff like:
- Why you should always shut down your computer (Mac or PC) at night, instead of just putting it to sleep
- Why you should always eject and unplug your external hard drive before shutting down the computer
- Why, contrary to what most people will tell you, you do need virus protection on a Mac now, and which one's the best program
- Keyboard shortcuts and "hacks" you may not know about
- How to prevent your Mac from overheating
- and much more
He also gave me a loaner laptop for a few days as he was fixing mine, so I could keep working, which was a true godsend. I have to say, this was probably the best "full service" I've ever gotten from a computer repair shop (including mugs of steaming hot tea for our initial half-hour troubleshooting session and the tutorial after the repair).
I highly recommend Mac Nurse for all your Mac needs even if it's not broken, but you suspect it could be running more optimally, or if you're a newbie to Mac and feel like you don't really know what you're doing.

Yesterday Perry upgraded my OS and incorporated 16 GB of new RAM into my system, and I can't believe the difference in speed and sleekness of operation. I have a late 2011 MacBook Pro, yet with the SSD he added two years ago and his inspection of my files and apps for malware and redundancy, I have a computer I prefer to any new and "tinny" device. I come from a big city, but I save all of my Mac issues for my trips to Vermont. I would not trust anyone else for advice or hardware repair.

I got everything I needed and plenty more to make it well worth the 1.5 hour roundtrip drive to Hardwick! Perry was helpful, informative, friendly and very clear on what the job entailed. My Macbook needed a new battery on top of the upgrade and rather than charge me to replace the battery, he emailed the link right then and there so I could just click/order and install without any hassle and leave the more involved work to him. For more than ten years our domain email never worked right. We had just about given up. But when we heard about Mac Nurse, we decided to give Perry a try. Last year my Mac Mini crashed and wouldn't start up. Friends of mine in Hardwick recommended I contact Mac Nurse to help me. They were more than right! Perry diagnosed the problems and proposed several solutions including repair-vs-replace costs of various hardware parts and upgraded software. Perry installed a fan application to keep my Mac running cooler, setup a backup system for me, and helped me install a top-of-the line antivirus program. He also instructed me on how to get the best use out of all the aspects of my Mac. We met in his office, at my home, and he provided lots of follow-up tech support via screensharing. I just finished working with Perry. I spilled a full glass of water on my Mac several weeks back. Perry helped me by answering a multitude of questions. He gave me the complete bevy of solutions. He outlined the benefits and drawbacks of each option and helped me decide the best course of action.
Today I met with Perry to pick up my repaired Mac and it's great! He took the time to explain everything in detail, except for the questions he advised me to forget about because they would require too-long, technically obtuse answers, and helped me understand places I should not be trying to go on my computer. On that rare occasion when your Mac is ailing, Mac Nurse (aka Perry Heller) will welcome you with a prompt appointment and greet you warmly at his office door right on time. I have sought help from Mac Nurse on three occasions: Once for a general refurbishment of my aging MacBook Pro, and twice for viruses. Perry listened respectfully as I described my problem; gave me the diagnosis in non-tech, understandable English; quickly fixed it, all the while offering ways to make my use of this wonderful machine more interesting and efficient. By the way, at the same time, he will also sync any other devices you may have with you. And all of this is offered at a very affordable price. Working with Perry at Mac Nurse was the best computer buying experience I've ever had! He set me up with a refurbished MacBook Pro for use at work and I couldn't be happier. We had an initial appointment where I was able to check out his available computers and discuss my needs. He helped me pick the perfect one and did some updates that allowed me to better run my large graphics programs. At our second appointment he set everything up for me including my email, contacts, and photos, internet preferences, and dashboard to name a few. I left with an amazing customized computer that works perfectly for me, all for under $1000 with a 1yr warranty (what a deal! I would have easily spent $2K+ on a new system). I've been working on it for about three weeks now and it allows me to get my work done much more efficiently than my old system. Anyone who brings their computer issues to MacNurse is in for a treat. My old MacBook Pro kept running out of memory when I watched videos on YouTube or Facebook. And the screen kept going green. And various programs crashed at odd moments. Perry Heller aka MacNurse is stellar. The initial consultation was like talking to a doctor or a therapist (NOT in the pejorative sense!) So was the final consultation. He diagnosed all the problems I knew about -- and then some. A wide range of problems I had no notion of were making my computer very sluggish. He is thorough, professional, and compassionate about your odd computer habits. He promptly fixed absolutely everything (a long list) and I now have an upgraded, spiffy Mac -- basically fully refurbished, good as new, running on the latest OS, El Capitan. (And his dog Trevor is a sweetheart.)

This is my second experience upgrading my Mac Mini with Perry. (I've not had to ever buy a new and much more expensive computer!) We needed some help cleaning up our network connection for our guests at the Craftsbury Farmhouse (craftsburyfarmhouse.com), and getting the strongest wifi signal we could throughout both our home, and the rental home. Perry runs his tests, diagnoses the issues, and calmly goes about doing his magic. On the first visit, he reconfigured our wifi extender, eliminated unneeded networks, and ran Time Machine to backup our data, and move our photos and videos to an external hard drive. On his second visit, Perry moved our photos and videos from my iPad to our MacBook Pro, then from the MacBook Pro to the external hard drive. This cost-conscious move created much more storage on both the iPad and the MacBook Pro, and both run extremely well now. Perry has no agenda. You explain what you want, and he works to meet your needs. He explains everything in layman’s terms, offers options, and allows you to decide how you would like to proceed. His suggestion to call our internet service provider, FairPoint, to see if we could increase our Internet speed led to a significant jump in our megabits/sec. Overall, Mac Nurse increased the health of our devices, and Perry educated me about many things that I had little knowledge about.
